So many people have spoken to me recently about how busy their lives are. I’m sure I’m not unique in hearing these words. It seems that the pace of life just keeps getting faster and busier. Indeed, I felt the same way myself and I expect many here this morning are feeling the same way. It all brings us to a position where the countless jobs keep piling up and this, in turn, brings on a feeling of stress. The result is, for many, they feel they have insufficient time and they’re just getting more and more tired. I do hope that this doesn’t spill over into our Christian activities and our faith, so that what we do for this church, what we do in our groups, adds to the over activity and to the stress in our physical, our emotional, our spiritual lives. The danger, I believe, that is often put about is that if we’re going to be counted as Christians, if we really are Christians, we need to do more; we need to help more; we need to give more – we just don’t do enough and I’m sure that’s not right. I think we can overemphasise that we must keep thinking about what we should be doing. We don’t give sufficient thought to what Christ is doing, what he’s doing for us, what he knows about us. Instead of what we should do or not do, we might concentrate more on the miracle of what is that God is doing for us. I believe really so strongly that the Gospel is lost when our actions are stressed and the love of God is played down, when we ignore what he does in our lives. I’m sure that the salvation of this world, and ourselves, does not depend on our activities but on the activities of God.
